Kim Dowis

Kim’s interest in animal behavior began as a small child. She would spend hours studying how all types of animals and bugs behave with an emphasis on how they communicate with one another. Kim pursued this interest during her studies at the University of Georgia where she graduated with a bachelor of science in biology. During her time at UGA she focused on animal behavior and neurobiology. After graduating and moving into the world of pharmaceuticals Kim rescued a very fearful mix breed. It was this dog, Rikki that launched her into the world of dog training. She recognized the need to build Rikki’s confidence through training. Rikki competed in obedience and agility. Kim continued to compete in agility and then disc dog with her next dogs Emmett and Nimble. She found herself winning several frisbee competitions and agility awards with her talented pups. This gave her the opportunity to become a full time dog trainer. In 2009 she begin to pursue herding and with her first competitive herding dog Remedy she took several novice first places. As Remedy aged and retired from agility and herding, Kim wanted to continue to provide him mental stimulation. This is how she found the sport of canine nosework. With so many years of teaching and training dogs for sports and a few commercial gigs along the way she has learned from so many great instructors, fellow competitors, as well as students.

“All the training required for high level competition begins with the basic relationship we have with the dogs we live with each and every day.” Kim
